What We Do

In the words of noted child psychiatrist, neuroscientist and author Dr. Bruce Perry, “Connectedness has the power to counter-balance adversity.”

The very foundation of parent organization The Center for Great Expectations’ unique relational approach has informed The Institute of CGE’s trauma-attuned consulting and training. We partner with schools, workforces and clinical teams to provide customized training and development programs that foster connections, weave a stronger social fabric and promote resilience within the larger community. Chronic stress is a reality for many of us at home, at work and at school. The Institute’s expertise in relationally based approaches is more critical than ever. We teach people how to be aware of and to calm their own internal storms, enabling them to be fully present for themselves and for each other.

This unique approach is scalable and can be used in a variety of settings: We have found that it is equally beneficial in a small social impact organization and in schools across an entire district. We have presented in small conference rooms, large auditoriums and across the digital universe. Our process and tools exist so that we can help you transform into a stress-free community.

The result of training in the Attuned Community Approach,

We are Aware

Individuals who can remain in the present moment and raise awareness of their feelings, thoughts and physical sensations are better prepared to regulate that state to optimize their brains and bodies for success at the task at hand (learning, relating, parenting, managing stress, problem-solving, decision-making, de-escalating and the like).

We are Attuned

When emotionally well-regulated, we can attune or empathize with each other, access the parts of our brains designed for critical thinking and choose the most effective strategy to meet each other’s needs. In this state, we are more successful in creating the best relationships, making it easier to find effective strategies to achieve our goals.

We are Aligned

When we are calm and can relate well to others, we are truly working together to fulfill a purpose. We are able to choose and maintain conscious intentions that guide our behaviors, maximizing authenticity and connection. Personal alignment is living a life consistent with one’s intentions and priorities. Organizational alignment is achieved by attuning to a shared vision, one that recognizes and honors the involvement of others. When our actions serve our collective intentions, we are aligned, leading to increased contentment, productivity and job satisfaction.
